Stefan Venter is an expert in doing complex business throughout the African continent. Stefan consults to Erudite on financial and corporate matters, and is fully responsible for the organisation’s financial and administration function.

Stefan is a seasoned professional and his vast experience has been acquired during his 24-year tenure as finance director at DRA Africa – the largest diversified engineering, project management and operations business on the continent with more than 1,000 employees.

During this time, he was instrumental in forming new companies and branches in Africa; growing the business from two companies and a turnover of ZAR 18 million per annum, to ZAR 7.3 billion through a complex structure of more than 50 companies worldwide.

His thorough understanding of the African business landscape comes from actively working in 10 vastly varying African countries, ranging from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Zimbabwe, where he was involved in multifaceted negotiations with tax authorities.

Stefan also played an instrumental role in successfully extracting a disputed tax amount of R85 million from the South African Revenue Service (SARS), including interest of R8.8 million, in 2016.

Stefan is a University of Pretoria alumnus and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Accounting.

His role at group Board level, for more than a decade in a business with an international profile of some distinction, has allowed him to develop valuable relationships with most of the major commercial and banking centres throughout Africa and the globe.

Stefan also created a Holdco with Reserve Bank endorsement to enable the company to transfer funds from South Africa without getting Reserve Bank approval for every transaction. This was one of the very first Holdco’s approved by the South Africa Reserve Bank.
