THAKADU NICKEL PURIFICATION PLANT

A feasibility study was undertaken by Thakadu Battery Minerals (TBM) in 2017 to investigate the establishment of a 31,200 tpa Nickel Purification Plant (NPP) at the Lonmin BMR in South Africa to produce high-purity nickel sulphate for the global lithium-ion battery market.  On the basis of the conclusions reached by the feasibility study, TBM and Lonmin signed an agreement to proceed with the detail design and construction of the Thakadu Nickel Purification Plant at Lonmin’s Marikana BMR plant.  The complete EC&I component (Design, Management & Commissioning) will be managed and executed by Erudite Projects on behalf of MET-63 & TBM.

TAILINGS RECOVERY PLANT

Erudite has been commissioned by South32 to conduct a concept investigation where a need has been identified to terminate the primary use of a tailings dam and to identify means of recovering the tailings material in a dry format and to replenish the plant service water with the water recovered during the process. The manganese fines recovered from the obsolete tailings dam and recovered material can be sold as a product, while the efficient recovery of service water will contribute to the environmental impact of that part of the plant.

COAL STOCKPILE FEED SYSTEM

Erudite Projects has been awarded the contract for the detail design and engineering of a 1.8 Mtpa strategic stockpile feed system.

The purpose of the feed system is to transfer coal from the power station coal beds to the new strategic stockpile. This will be accomplished by means of a Feed Conveyor that will receive coal directly from the coal bed stackers. The coal will then be transferred to a 1.4 km Reversible Overland Stockpile Conveyor that transports the coal to the strategic stockpile area. The Stockpile Conveyor then transfers the coal to a Rotary Kidney Stacker. From this point the coal will be deposited by mobile machinery.

What makes this design exceptional is that the system will be designed to cater for reclamation of coal in the future. This will be achieved by having an overland conveyor that can run in reverse. The coal from the stockpile will be transferred to the Reversible Stockpile Conveyor by means of a buffalo feeder which transports the coal back to the power station coal bed area. The tail end of the Stockpile Conveyor will be designed so that it transfers the coal back onto the Feed Conveyor which will feed the power station coal bed reclaim conveyors. The system will be in operation by 31 Jan 2019.

TWO RIVERS PLATINUM

Erudite is excited to announce that it has been awarded the contract to execute the secondary crusher expansion project by Two Rivers Platinum (Pty) Ltd on an EPCM basis. Two Rivers Platinum Mine is one the world’s major producers of PGM group metals and are situated close to Steelpoort in South Africa. The addition of a second secondary crusher and ancillary equipment will significantly increase the plant availability.

SYLVANIA MOOINOOI FLOAT PLANT

SMD Sylvania Metals (PTY) Ltd (“Sylvania”) awarded G4eps the detail design of a new Flotation Plant at the Mooinooi Operation in Mooinooi.

The feed to the float plant will be the rougher tailings of the existing plant, after fine grinding. The project must deliver the new float plant, regrind mill, utilities, reagents plant, concentrate storage tank, pumps, piping and valves, instrumentation and electrical infrastructure to accept all the rougher tailings from the existing plant at current operating densities.

Commissioining is scheduled for February 2019.

Erudite Strategies were tasked to Provide information for ENDEVA Pre-Study of the proposed 1MVA renewable energy solution for Zamsort’s copper/cobalt mine near Kalumbila, Northwestern Province, Zambia.  Based on a various face-to-face, and Skype meetings held with ENDEVA, the need was expressed for a CAPEX for a PV solution to provide a more favourable take-off unit cost vs. that of the current diesel operating cost to Zamsort.
